Camping Now and Then

Let’s take a trip down memory lane! Yogi Bear’s Jellystone ParkTM at Kozy Rest has been constantly evolving year by year. A lot of hard work and a great vision have turned it into the campground you know and love today.

Denny and Kathy Quigley had enjoyed camping as a pastime for many years. In 2000, they had the opportunity to purchase, at the time, Kozy Rest Kampground. The property was nestled on a beautiful 34 acres of land just an hour outside of Pittsburgh. The Quigley family knew it was going to be something amazing!

Although they had a slow start to their first season, they were booked solid by Labor Day! Throughout the next decade, the campground grew a large following with many campers returning each season. Eleven years after purchasing the campground, in 2011, they decided to join the Jellystone ParkTM franchise. Yogi Bear called Harrisville home with a name change to Yogi Bear’s Jellystone ParkTM at Kozy Rest. Although they are now part of a larger Jellystone ParkTM family, the Quigley’s have maintained the family-owned feeling of the campground by helping campers create unforgettable memories!

Turning Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park at Kozy Rest into the ultimate family summer vacation wasn’t a walk in the park. There were lots of challenges and obstacles in bringing the Quigley family’s vision to life. With a positive attitude, the family continues to make improvements and strives for something better each year!

Learning the ropes was the most challenging part! Although they were seasoned campers, the Quigley’s had little knowledge about campground and property management when they first purchased the campground in 2000. Understanding the day-to-day operations, following regulations and providing the ultimate experience for campers were some of the biggest challenges. During those first few years, it was essential for the Quigley family to build a solid foundation and focus on putting the camper first.

long for the Quigley family to catch on and they continue to make improvements today. In addition to the already popular amenities, such as the jump zone, gem mining sluice and water zone; some of their most recently completed projects include a new laser tag battlefield, RC car racetracks, a bicycle pump track, a gaga ball court and upgraded 50-amp electric for all transient sites! Not only did these exciting changes and additions to the campground excite returning campers, but they also attracted new ones too!

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone ParkTM at Kozy Rest continues to win awards and earn recognition for their dedication to not only their campground, but also the camping community. In November, they were awarded 2018 ARVC “Plan-It-Green” National Park of the Year for their sustained efforts and impact from operating a “Green Friendly” Park. Success for the Quigley family, however, isn’t about the awards, it’s about happy campers – and continued motivation to make the camping experience better each year!
